As the oldest in a blended family of nine children, Alanna DiGioia has always been interested in children’s welfare. Combined with her love of learning and reading, this makes for a strong dedication to Springboard Collaborative’s mission; she believes that all children deserve to be given equal opportunities to succeed. Alanna holds a B.A. in Political Science from Drexel University. She joins Springboard Collaborative as a PHENND Fellow, a new Philadelphia program housed under AmeriCorps VISTA. She will spend her year of service coordinating the second year of Schoolyear, Springboard’s newest program aiming to close the reading achievement gap in Philadelphia. Her favorite children’s book is Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein, whose poems like “Sarah Cynthia Sylvia Stout Would Not Take the Garbage Out” still make her laugh.
