How does it work?
There is no smaller classroom than a family’s living room, and there is no more organic, cost-effective, or scalable way to personalize instruction than through a parent. Through the Springboard app, we will leverage technology to build a lighter-touch, lower-cost app that will help families develop and maintain home literacy habits. In its beta phase, the app will feature:
Families will set goals for how long parents will read with their children on a daily basis, and how long children will read independently.
Making a plan
Parents will plan when they intend to read, which will trigger a reminder notification.
We will leverage Springboard’s wealth of video and written content to equip parents with reading strategies that are developmentally appropriate for their children.
Choosing a reward
Parents determine how their family will celebrate meeting their reading goals. On a daily basis, parents will track minutes read. At the end of the week, the app will report out on performance relative to the goal.
How will it benefit my school(s)?
On average, a single Springboard Summer intervention is enough to get Kindergarteners and 1st graders reading on grade-level. For school leaders, this creates an interesting challenge: should they re-enroll those children in programming or should they cede their seat to a struggling reader that has not yet experienced Springboard? The Springboard app will present a third option: a lighter touch, lower cost support that will help families sustain literacy habits beyond programming.
In future iterations of the app, we will add functionality for teachers to customize strategies for individual students. This will enable the Springboard app to become a valuable tool for teachers and a data-rich platform for school leaders.

How will it benefit my family?
Springboard helps families build home literacy habits by setting goals, making plans, and choosing rewards. The Springboard app will leverage technology to enable parents to do this conveniently through an app. This will enhance the programming experience for participants and extend Springboard’s support to families that cannot join in-person programs.
