My daughter is motivated.
She used to be a level 16 and now she’s a 20, just over the course of this summer. I had her in Springboard Afterschool, and we stayed right through the summer. That really helped.
Every time I go to a workshop, I learn something new. For example, I learned to use your finger to group three or four words together.
That made my daughter more fluent!
When I started her in Kindergarten, she was fine.
In first grade, she wasn’t reading at the level she was supposed to. I would read to her but I wasn’t reading with her or teaching her how to read. We’ve been doing Springboard for three years now!
Springboard taught me some cool techniques for teaching her how to read, like tapping out each letter sound in a word with her fingers, and how to group words together so that she’s not reading like a robot. I would read with her, add emotion, then she would start to get more fluent. She’ll use the exclamation point now!
Springboard did more for me than anything else.
Families earn learning tools—books, backpacks with schools supplies, and tablets—in proportion to their children’s reading progress.
Attendance
In 5 weeks, my son made 5 months of reading progress. He surpassed his goal and earned a tablet that we can use to continue supporting his progress. It was the first time I saw him recognize that hard work pays off. The lessons that he learned from his time with Springboard went far and above just reading.
Springboard has been great to my family. My child enjoyed the program and I myself enjoyed and highly appreciated the progress that he has made along the way. He was always that academic kid, but Springboard motivated him to read and use techniques while reading. Now he’s making his brother a reader. Whenever he comes home, he finds a book to read. Whenever the school does a book fair, he’s ecstatic about buying books, not erasers or toys like most kids. He’s intrigued by reading.
Springboard has family materials available in Amharic, English, French, Mandarin, Spanish, and Vietnamese.
Most of the books she’s got are books from Springboard. Springboard added a lot to our reading collection.
Springboard Afterschool trains teachers to effectively target instruction and coach families in order to accelerate struggling readers’ progress during the academic year. This intervention spans the third quarter of the year and features a combination of teacher coaching, small-group instruction, family training workshops, and incentives.

Springboard helps parents by giving us guidelines for how to support our child with reading. Obviously I can read, but I’m not a teacher. As parents, we need the strategies and even the language to help and guide our children as teachers of reading.
We already read with our son but focused more on him getting the words right than on comprehension. Springboard taught us to utilize predictions before, during and after reading books with him. With predictions reading became more of a game than a chore. It also reinforced comprehension, which made our son a stronger reader.
