What is Springboard Collaborative?

Springboard Collaborative envisions a world in which all children have the literacy skills to access life opportunities, and we believe that the world is made possible by closing the gap between home and school. Educators provide key literacy instruction in classrooms, but the classroom experience is only about 25% of a child’s waking hours.

Springboard Collaborative programming equips families and educators with the tools to become partners in a student’s learning. Our programs provide educators with the resources to lead high-quality instructional time in the classroom and collaborative learning time with families to help them become at-home reading coaches.

Springboard Summer and Afterschool

This program is a fully-managed literacy program that takes place over the course of five weeks for Summer or ten weeks for Afterschool. Educators are trained by Springboard staff and equipped with printed and digital resources such as instructional materials and student action plans. Springboard resources are designed to be both robust and flexible, making them easy to use right out of the box and as customizable as you want!

Families join students in the classroom regularly for family workshops, where they learn a reading tip and connect with educators about their child’s reading.

Over the short program, families and educators work together to help children reach reading goals!

Programming includes:

  • Weekly literacy instruction using a research-based curriculum that aligns with the National Reading Panel’s “big 5” areas of strong reading instruction (15-19 hours/week in Summer; 3 hours/week in Afterschool)
  • Family engagement resources including family book packs, family workshop curriculum, access to our at-home reading strategy app, and premium student incentives
  • Implementation support from Springboard Program Directors and City-level leadership* (Program Manager, Operations Manager, Program Leader Coach)

*City-level leadership is implemented with more than 4 sites in a district

Want to try out open-source Springboard Collaborative in your classroom?

We open-sourced Springboard Collaborative’s recipe for impact! Underlying our outcomes is a methodology through which teachers and parents team up to support learning at home. We call it a Family-Educator Learning Accelerator (or FELA). FELAs are 5-10-week cycles during which teachers and parents share a game plan to help kids reach growth goals.
